Mexico is thick with feeling, folklore, people and family. (Press play & continue reading…)
Sabor a Mi is the name of this song, but it’s also the name of a music venue in Obregon, Sonora.
On one side of the venue sat 30 members of my family, on the other side sat hip hop fans decked out in flat brimmed baseball caps and the middle sat cowboys and cowgirls eating Mexican food.
Coral Hermosillo (the first female rapper in Sonora) sat in the front. She organized the event, booked 4 other amazing acts and performed. I know the stress that comes with organizing gigs and hoping people will turn up and she did a great job. The place was packed & I was thankful.
We took to the stage, 2 band members short and my cousin playing keys with us for the first time. (Our pockets were stuffed with confetti, which we inflicted upon the crowd at appropriate moments.) And the show went without a hitch!
We made new fans, new friends and were able to present our music to our family, who we don’t see very often.
Muchas gracias a todos!
