I think film-makers everywhere suffer through the same ordeal.
Little, beautiful moments are registered with a lens & plopped onto a hard-drive where they rest until they’re forgotten about.
Footage without a purpose.
Robert the film-maker and I both do this. We film patterns of frost on a window, a tiny plane soaring above us, traffic moving, people juggling. And we do this without thinking about what all the footage will be used for.
Today we’ll meet with Nicolas the artist in a studio, work with our purposeless footage and make a music video. We’ve got a big idea. We’ll be using our creative heads and crossing our fingers. I hope it works out.
